11.0 CAM module, exercise 4
Since you have already done
exercises: 1, 2 and 3, we will not go into the details of each
manipulation that you have already done.
After clicking on the icon
«CAM» from the
CAD, you find your drawing deprived of its attributes of: colors,
thickness, etc... In fact, they are no longer useful in CAM because the
aim now is to realize the tool paths.
In the first window, choose the material
«Plexiglas». Don’t change part origin and raw dimension.

Validate with «OK».
Select all the objects to be
engraved: graduations, texts and the viewfinder.
In order to facilitate this
selection, make a global selection, then using the function «selection
minus» you unselect non-concerned objects.
Make a global selection by
clicking on the key «space bar» (keyboard shortcut).
Once the whole drawing is
selected, click on the icon «selection minus».
Now, unselect the inside and
outside contours as well as the central point.
To unselect the point, make a
window around the point. Pay attention to not unselect the segments of the
viewfinder.
If accidentally, you unselect undesired objects,
reselect them with the icon «selection plus».

Once the objects to be engraved
are selected, apply to them their machining trajectories.
Click on the right mouse button
to call the contextual menu, and then click on: «describe the machining»
or press on the key «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Select tool N°5, engraving
tool 3.17mm, and click on «following».
In the following window: «machining
trajectory» enter: 0.20mm in the field «depth» and click on «following».

Since this sequence is an
engraving, don’t make an outlining or pocket cycle.
Enter the machining depth: 0.2mm

The following window «machining parameter»
indicates the values that will be applied to this sequence.

Validate the sequence by
clicking on «Finish».
The engravings being now parameterized, you are
now going to select the central point in order to create its sequence.

•Make a selection «Frame»
around the central point (be careful, don’t forget to reactivate the
icon «selection» if you have used «selection plus» and «selection
minus» functions ).
Click on the right mouse button
to call the contextual menu, and then click on: «describe the machining»
or press on the key «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Select tool N°8, drill 1mm,
and click on «following».
In the following window «machining
trajectory» click on «cut»; which will automatically indicates the
thickness of the raw material (a depth of 2mm), then click on «following».
The following window «machining
parameters» indicates the values that will be applied for this sequence.
Click on «extricate cycle»,
then click on «Finish».
Now, you are going to
parameterize the cuts starting by the inside cut.
Select the inside line.

Click on the right mouse button
to call the contextual menu, then click on: «describe the machining» or
press on the key «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Select tool N°14, double-edged
tool 2mm, and click an «following».
In the following window: «machining
trajectory», click on «cut»; witch will automatically indicates the
thickness of the raw material (depth of 2mm); click on «contours» then
on «inside», then click on «following».
The following window «machining
parameters» indicates the values that will be applied for this sequence.
Validate the sequence by
clicking on «Finish».
Now, parameterize the outside
cut.
Select the outside line.

Click on the right button to
call the contextual menu then click on «describe the machining» or press
the key «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Click on the right mouse button
to call the contextual menu, and then click on: «describe the machining»
or press on the key «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Select tool N°14, double-edged
tool 2mm, and click an «following».
In the following window: «machining trajectory»,
click on «cut»; which will automatically indicates the thickness of the
raw material (depth of 2mm); click on «contours» then on «inside»,
then click on «following».
The following window «machining
parameters» indicates the values that will be applied for this sequence.
Validate the sequence by
clicking on «Finish».
Now you are going to create a
machining sequence to make a (chamfer) on the central hole. Therefore you
will have to apply a second machining sequence on the point. As it is
forbidden to apply several machining on the same object, you are going to
travel from CAM to CAD, and then from CAD to CAM in order to regenerate
the drawing lines and therefore be able to apply the second sequence on
the point.
Click on the icon «CAD»
You go back to CAD.
Click on the icon «CAM».
You go back to CAM and all the
drawing lines have been regenerated.
Make a selection «Frame»
around the central point (be careful not to accidentally select other
objects because all the drawings have been regenerated).
Click on the right mouse button
to call the contextual menu then click on: «describe the machining or
press the button «enter» (keyboard shortcut).
Select the tool N°10, drill
3.17mm and click on «following».
In the following window: «machining
trajectory», enter a depth of 1mm, and then click on «following».
The following window «machining
parameters» indicates to you the values that will be applied for this
sequence (if, on your version, the speeds are not parameterized, put: 8000
Rpm for the spindle speed and 1mm/s for machining speed ).
Validate the sequence by
clicking on «finish».
The machining parameterizations
are now finished; you are going to make different controls:
(Machining report, sequences).

You can also perform rapid and/or realist
simulations.

Once the controls and
simulations are performed, you can start the machining by using the same
procedures as for the other exercises.
From the version 3.20 the pilot asks for the
first tool; on the preceding versions, only tool changes are indicated.
