12.0 Appendix 1, charlyGRAAL files

12.1 CharlyGRAAL drawing file (*.CAD)

· In the CAD module, the function «save» or «save as» generates a file type

«CAD».

It is a drawing file, like a file «SKD» for AutosketchÔ or «CDR» for CoreldrawÔ.

Only drawing information are contained in this file; no machining information is included in.

You have to save the drawing files if you wish later to modify the geometry of the drawing.

12.2 CharlyGRAAL CAM file (*.CAM)

In the CAM module, the function «Save» or «Save as» generates a file type «CAM».

This file can have the same name as the CAD file from which it stems, but it is not obligatory.

It contains the data describing the machining trajectories (tool, pass, speed...). It is useful to save this file if you wish later to modify the machining parameters or change the used tools.

Observation :

You can generate a «.CAM» file using several drawing files (.CAD) by using the function File —> import from CAM module.

12.3 CharlyGRAAL machining file (*.PCB)

In the CAM module, the function «generate the machining file «leads to the creation» of a file «.PCB».

It’s a matter of a file containing the list of machine displacement orders. This file is coded into «binary» and therefore small sized. it is useless to keep this kind of file because it is saved by a simple «click».

The .PCB file is mainly used if you wish to machine on an equipment other than on which the CAD and CAM operations were carried out.

Observation :

When you use the function «machining» in the CAM module CharlyGRAAL generates a file «CAMTemp.pcb» which is placed in the directory: «C:\wcharly\Graal\Cam» and automatically transformed in the piloting module.

13.0 Appendix 2, Import/Export of drawing through windowÔ Copy/Paste Function

You can also import or export drawings in charlyGRAAL from another software designed for windowsÔ (vector information).

Warning !

The copy/paste format is more or less respected according to software editors; which may entail variations according to the used software (especially with software written for window 3.1).

Some entities are not generated by the «copy/paste» of WindowsÔ (points, line thickness, dotted lines...); the processing is left free to the software editor. It is however recommended to avoid using this kind of attribute in the «copy/paste», especially, the line thickness. The ideal thing is to put the thickness to a minimum before starting «copy/paste».
