9.0 CAM module, exercise level 3

 

The window «dimension, type of material and marching rigin» remind you of the volume that you had parametrized in drawing. Before validating this window, you have to choose the material family that will be attributed to your part.

Click on the arrow in order to get the list of available material and select the material family that you will use to machine this part (for this example, we are going to take «hard plastic».

Keep the dimensions and the origin as they are defined in default.

Validate with the button «Ok».

Now, we are going to parameterize machining.

In exercise N°1, you discovered the CAM selection modes. Also, we will not go back to it.

Select the gearwheel shaft hole.

Click on the right mouse button in order to open the contextual menu. Open «describe the machining» menu.

Select « milling tools» then «double-edged tool D = 2 mm.

Validate with the button «following».

 

 

In the following window, fill in the field «machining dept» by clicking on «cutting» in order to automatically attribute the total thickness of the raw.

Then click on the button «Surrounding» then on «inside». Therefore the tool moves inside of the hole contour. The hole will have the exact dimensions of the drawing.

Click on the button «following».

The following window gives the result of the machining expert calculations. These values will be applied automatically for this sequence.

Validate this window with the button «finished».

In the same way, select the three points of the gearwheel fixing.

Click on the right mouse button in order to open the contextual menu, then open the menu «describe the machining».

Since the selected objects are points, the only tools proposed are drills.

Select «3.17 mm drill».

Validate the window with the button «following».

 

 

 

In the following window, fill in the field «machining depth» by entering «4 mm».

Click on the button «following». The machining expert integrated in the CAM module will ask you to validate this depth because it is higher than the raw thickness.

Validate this window by the button «Yes» because it is normal for a drill to go deeper than the raw, to take account of the too conical end .

The following window gives the result of the machining expert calculations. These values will be applied automatically for this sequence. (takin) into consideration of the thickness of the raw, you don’t apply neither breakingin nor breeze turning for this sequence.

Validate this window with the button «finish».

 

Now select the circle concentric to the cogwheel ax hole.

Click on the right mouse button in order to open the contextual menu, then open the menu «describe the machining».

Select «tools to be reamed» then «double-sized reamer D = 3.17 mm.

Validate the window with the button «following».

In the following window, fill in the field «machining depth» by entering the value: 1 mm.

Click on the button «pocket cycle», in order to empty the entire zone inside the circle, on 1 mm depth.

Click on the button «following».

The following window gives the result of the machining expert calculations. These values will be applied automatically for this sequence.

Validate the window with the button «finish».

 

Now you are going to select the eight lightening holes by selecting the first one, then the other seven ones using the function «selection plus».

 

Click on the right mouse button in order to open the contextual menu, then open the menu «describe the machining».

Select «milling tools « then «double-edged tool D = 2 mm.

Validate the window with the button «following».

 

 

In the following window, fill in the field «machining depth» by clicking on «cut» in order to automatically attribute the total thickness of the raw.

Then click on the button «surrounding» then on «inside». Therefore, the tool will move inside of the contour of the lightening holes, that will have the exact drawing dimensions.

Click on the button «following».

The following window gives the result of the machining expert calculations. These values will be applied automatically for this sequence.

Validate this window with the button «Finish».

 

 

To finish, you are going to select the outside contour of the gearwheel.

Click on the right button in order to open the contextual menu, then open the menu «describe the machining».

Select «milling tools» then «double-edged tool D = 2 mm».

Validate the window with the button «Following».

 

In the following window, fill in the field «machining depth» by clicking on «cut» in order to automatically attribute the total thickness of the raw.

Then click on the button «surrounding» then on «outside». Therefore, the tool will move outside of the gearwheel contour, that will have the exact drawing dimensions.

Click on the button «following».

The following window gives the result of the machining expert calculations. Values will be applied automatically for this sequence.

Validate this window with the button «Finish».

 

 

The machining parameterization are now finished but before proceeding to controls and simulations, you will make a modification at the machining sequences.

In fact, the sequences were automatically calculated by the machining expert, but in the present case you are going to modify them, placing the tool «milling tool 3.17 mm» exactly after the drilling tool.

In the machining menu, click on the sub-menu «sequences».

Select the sequence «Milling tool 3.17 mm» and place it in the fourth position, with the rising arrow.

 

As for the exercises N°1 and N°2, you are going to view the machining report, then make the simulations.

 

 

Once the controls and simulations are performed, you can start the machining by using the procedure as for exercises N°1 and N°2.

The first tool is drilling tool 3.17 mm, the others will be automatically asked by the pilot.
