GRAAL 3D-2 CAD6.1 Examples of 3D surface drawings.
To help you to get started with CharlyGRAAL
surface functions, we suggest that you carry out two guided exercises. Remember
to record the file and save it regularly. (You can call it " Ex5.CAD
").
6.2 First 3D exercise: drawing a plate.
For this first 3D exercise you will use the
" revolution surface " function
Once the CharlyGRAAL CAD module is open, give
the dimensions of the following blank: - X = 120 - Y = 120 - Z = 4
In fact, for this example, the dimension of the
" Z " axis is of no importance because you will be drawing above
the blank.
As in the previous examples, arrange your
screen with two windows, attributing the perspective view to the small
window and activate the " realistic rendering "(window menu)!
You will now draw the profile.
Click on " polyline " then on "
digital entry absolute tab "(keyboard shortcut = " enter ")
Enter the absolute coordinates: - X = 60 - Y =
60
Validate the position by " OK " then
click with the mouse.
Click on " Digital entry relative tab
"(keyboard shortcut = " Ctrl + Arrow ext ") then enter the
following relative coordinates: - X = -32.5 - Y = 0
Validate the position by " OK " then
click with the mouse.
Renew this operation three times with
successively the following values:
- X = -7.5 - Y = 10
- X = -10 - Y = 5
- X = -5 - Y = -5
Once the last positon is validated, give a
right click to stop the construction.

You are now going to make the rounded shapes on
the plate profile.
Make a frame Zoom on the profile.
Click on : " link " then "
fillet "
Enter : 4 mm in the field " fillet radius
" then validate by " OK ".
Click on the low angle of the profile.
Renew the operation on the other two angles
with a radius of: 2 mm.

You will now delete the left edge of the plate
after the fillet; but to be able to carry out this operation, you will
first have to dissociate the entities of the profile that have been
associated automatically.
Select the profile, then click on "
ungroup " in the " edit " menu
Then select the left edge of the plate before
the rounded part and delete it.

The profile is now complete, and you are going
to join it before applying to it a rotation of 90° in relation to the
" Z " plane.
Select the profile with a frame selection, then
click on " join " in the " edit " menu.
After activating the icon " 3D "
, click on " rotation
"(contextual menu).
Enter: 90° and select: " show the center
or rotation axis ".
Validate by " OK ".Click two points
on the axis of the " X " at the level of the profile base.
The rotation takes place at the second click.

The profile is now finished and positioned, and
you are going to be able to generate the surface around a " Z "
axis.
Click on " page zoom "
Click on " surface " then on "
revolution surface "
Enter a rotation angle of: 360° then click on
: " OK "
Click on the rotation point (right end of the
profile) by clicking once on the left button then immediately on the right
button.
The surface is now created and the plate is
represented in realistic rendering if you have activated this function.

The plate is now finished. If you wish to carry
out the 3D machining of this exercise, you must have a license for the FAO
GRAAL3D software and in this case, refer to the training manual for this
software. If you have not acquired this licence, contact the sales
